Piece of Cake is an app that simplifies the process of ordering custom baked goods. Whether the occasion be birthday party, wedding, or just a sudden craving for chocolate mousse, sweets-seekers can directly connect with talented bakers with their specific requests. Additionally, the app contains a social component that allows users to recommend bakeries and engage in cake-fueled conversation.
Each bakery has a different process of customization, as well as different constraints on what aspects of an order can be customized. For consumers seeking highly customized orders, this can be restrictive; for bakers, the process can be exhausting. It is difficult to obtain information about where and how to order custom baked goods with no centralized resource.
The solution: An app where bakeries and customers can communicate, make orders, and share their love for baked goods.
Hi-fi prototypes created from initial ideations.
An updated visual design based on feedback.
Take a look at my final deliverable below!
This was my first UX design project. As a designer with a primarily graphic and illustration background, my first few prototypes focused too heavily on visual aesthetics rather than practical function. It was important for me to think about usability instead of simply visual appeal. I still got to exercise my artistic muscles, though—all the user and food illustrations were hand-drawn!
With it being my first time attempting UX design, I was so grateful for the feedback I received from my instructor and peers. There were many times throughout the process where I felt discouraged and upset that my designs weren't matching my original ambitions, and the constructive feedback really helped me understand where I could make substantial improvements. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
